5 New Years Resolutions for Less Plastic Waste

We have a great New Year's blog for you today. But first, we cannot ignore what is going on in Australia. If you are able to donate, please help. If you can't donate, please share.

We talk a lot about how bad plastic is and the different ways that we can be more environmentally friendly, but if you are starting the new year with a goal to reduce your waste, we wanted to give you a place to start, with a few easy ways to cut down on your plastic use this year!

1 BYO Bag

Many grocery stores have already started cutting down on plastic waste by charging people for plastic bags, so why not bring your own bags? Plus, Target and Trader Joe's will both give you discounts if you bring in reusable bags!

Check out this set of 5 grocery bags or these bags made from recycled material!

2 Get a "Sip Lid" instead of a straw

In an effort to reduce waste, Starbucks has created lids that don't need straws! So, instead of getting a straw with your cold drink, ask for a sip lid instead. This is an easy way to cut down your use of straws if you aren't ready to cut them out completely.

3 Cut Out One "Non-Recyclable"

There are a lot of things that cannot be recycled, so try cutting out ONE of these things this year. Check out the guide below to see what can and can't be recycled.

4. Switch to a Reusable Water Bottle

Cutting plastic water bottles is one easy change that makes a huge difference. You could pick one up at practically any store or find a custom one on Amazon.

5. Keep Track of Your Waste

Sometimes we do not even realize how much plastic we waste every day, so one way that we recommend to evaluate the waste you create is to track it. Set aside a bin of all of the plastic you waste in a week and see how full the bin is by the end of the week. The results may surprise you. Awareness is key, and when we realize just how much waste we create, we can be more conscious about it in the future.

There you have it! A few easy ways to cut down on waste this year. We can't wait to see what you do!
